Henry Priestman and Les Glover return to WKAC
“It’s absolutely brilliant…..he’s found his voice!” Bob Harris, BBC Radio 2
“..the new Henry Priestman/Les Glover album…a thing of beauty” Mark Kermode (BBC TV/5 Live Broadcaster)
With a few West Kirby Arts Centre gigs under his belt, Henry’s very much looking forward to returning our beautiful venue, with Les Glover his trusty sideman, and whoever else he can persuade to join in the fun!
In 2009, Henry (who wrote all those hits for The Christians in the 80’s, and Yachts’ songs in the 70’s) reinvented himself as a singer-songwriter, and released his debut solo CD “The Chronicles of Modern Life” to critical acclaim, and singles from the album (including “Grey’s The New Blonde”) made it onto the Radio 2 playlist.
Proper Records released “The Last Mad Surge of Youth” in 2014 and it garnered Henry the best reviews he’s had in 45 years of releasing records. His most recent album (a joint affair with Les) is entitled “Six of One and Half a Dozen of the Other”, and the pair of them will be featuring songs from this plus both of his solo albums, maybe a Yachts song or two, and even a couple of Henry’s old hits, from way back when.
Here’s what they said about the albums.
“Priestman’s melodic and lyrical gifts remain superbly honed…Six of One and Half a Dozen of the Other’: brimful with top tunes” ** ‘RnR Magazine’
“…compares favourably to Ray Davies. These are heart-warming self-assured songs from a man confidently declaring that he’s not done yet” UnCut: 8/10
